EXTRA ELITE SPOTLIGHT: JAYDEN JONES
UT Jayden Jones, #6 in the 2024 Extra Elite 100, recently talked to Extra Inning Softball about Tennessee Mojo 18U-Danley/Fisher, versatility, consistency at the plate, PGF Nationals, Sept. 1 recruiting, sports medicine, Lauren Haeger, Migos, “Murder She Wrote” and baking.
EXTRA ELITE SPOTLIGHT Q&A
Club Team: Tennessee Mojo 18U-Danley/Fisher
Honors: Two-time All-District/All-Region/All-Conference; two-time 1st Team All-State; and two-time team MVP and shared Player of the Year with her sister (Aubrey Jones).
Tell us about your travel team/organization and how you became involved with them? I was looking for a team that could put me on a stage to get noticed by Power 5 coaches. We first reached out to Matt Abernathy, but I was too old for his team, so he sent me to Michael Danley and I tried out when I was at a tournament in Tennessee and I’ve played for him ever since.
What do you bring to the team? I can play multiple positions, hit the ball with power to all fields, have great plate discipline and I’m a good teammate.
What areas are you focusing on/trying to improve this fall? My consistency at the plate. Being able to hit to all fields within 10 percent of my best exit velo the majority of the time.
Can you tell us about your experience at PGF Nationals this summer? We had a big goal and it came with some disappointments and struggles, but I think it’s only going to make us work harder and be prepared for next year.
Which player/team was your toughest opponent and why? Every team had its own strengths and they all challenged us.
Can you tell us about your recruiting experience and Sept. 1? My recruiting experience has been a fun process. Me and my sister have gone to several camps, which is what got us noticed to begin with. September 1 for me was extremely exciting, but also a bit overwhelming. As soon as it turned midnight, I was on my first phone call and texts were coming in like crazy. It’s been a humbling and gratifying experience for sure.
What recruiting plans do you have for the future? I plan to go on a few visits and start to narrow down my options, so I can hopefully make a decision by mid/late October.
What areas are you interested in future occupations and why? I’m not sure what job I would be interested in, but I’d like it to be something to do with exercise science, sports medicine, health, fitness, nutrition, etc.
Who is your sports hero and why? Lauren Haeger, because she was one of the first softball players I watched on TV and I wanted to be just like her someday. Watching her win two national championships at Florida is what made me want to play in college. I wear #17 because of her.
What’s the best hype song and why? I personally don’t have one, but my team runs out on the field to “Is you ready” (by Migos) and that gets us all pretty hyped.
What’s your favorite TV show to binge and why? “Murder She Wrote.” No one probably knows what that is because it’s so old, but I’ve always liked learning how they find out who committed the crime.
Do you have a secret talent/skill? It’s not really a secret talent, but I’d consider myself a pretty good baker.
