Mangaluru, Sep 17: A youth from Urwa Store has learnt the art of make the best out of waste. Ujwal Albert D’Cunha, a Dubai returnee hit by the pandemic, has learnt this art using waste tyres and alcohol bottles.

Worn out tyres are either thrown, dumped or burnt which is very harmful for the environment. Also during monsoon, these scrap tyres make way for diseases like malaria and dengue, with water being stagnant in them.

Ujwal has come up with a unique idea to convert the scrap tyres into furniture. Apart from that, Ujwal also turns alcohol bottles in to ashtray and glass tumblers. He also makes hanging light, night table lamp and paper light with the help of yarn or wool which can be used during Deepavali and Christmas.

During the pandemic, Ujwal returned from Dubai which turned out to be a plus point for him. He was going through social media where he come across recycling of tyres into furniture. He then made three tyre chairs with ropes that was delivered to Camp Alpha in Chikkamagaluru. Ujwal came up with different ideas to make tyre chairs look even more attractive by installing cushions, sponge and clothing designs.

Generally, alcohol bottles are thrown or sold to scrap shops. Ujwal has used these waste alcohol bottles to convert them into glass tumblers and ashtrays. Ujwal cuts the alcohol bottles and softens the sharp edges to give a smooth finish that is perfect to be used.

Ujwal also makes some cool night table lamp, hanging light fixtures and pendant lamps with the help of yarn or cotton threads which can be used during Christmas and Deepavali for decorative lighting. Pallets are generally used for transportation and storage. Ujwal however grabs them to reuse it for making furniture.

More power to this environmentalist! Reuse Reduce Recycle should be the mantra!

Very happy reading this and more so for the ingenuity and thoughtfulness on recycling things which otherwise woulld qualify as waste . Best wishes for a successful venture !!

Awesome 👌....beautiful looking pieces. Wishing you the best...and may your creativity inspire many others to tread a different path..

Something to learn for jobless youth stealing cows, smuggling gold, selling drugs, running all sorts of illegal activities and being a burden on society. A big salute to Ujwal Dsouza , hope youth learn from you and make Mangalore a better place

Today all over the world its become a one way article or throwaway generation .Difficult to reuse or not knowing what to do with it.Even scrape collectors too collect something but not everything. Now and then some find new ideas to make best of waste.Find it super.Still we have lots of unuseable waste.Just see in sea ,what things are collected .Bottles mostly plastic ,net s which fisheries forget or throw off when torn. Many fishes or entangle in it and cant free themselves and die .Very sad. Many people try to collect and make the Sea free .One should be bit tactful and aware of these things so dont throw simply your waste on seashore but take home ,throw where it should be.

Congratulation Ujwal on your new Venture. May God Bless you with good success and let your interest be progressive by re-cycling such materials and come out with beautiful usable products.

Well done Ujwal.Keep up the creative work.

If there is will there is a way. Ujwal is a role model to the present youth who wander saying no job There are so many ways to earn for a hard working person. But shame to a lazy fellow. Congratulations bro

Unique concept well done ..Great going.

Hearty Congratulations to you dear Ujwal for your innovative interesting and creative entrepreneurship . I know you since you were a,little boy as my son Rahuls classmate in KG and now related to me through ny daughter in law Charrry Keep up the good work and continue to inspire many more youngsters to use their talents in a fruiitful way

We are so glad Ujwal found his passion to make the best out of waste where he is doing a favour to nature by doing his part. Our thing was to support his cause and do our part as well. We run a camping site at Chikmagalur where a lot of plastic chairs get broken within a year, but the tyre chair was the best option for us as it is hard and sturdy to withstand all kind abuse from the campers and the mother nature herself. And the same goes with the bottle tumblers, we know the govt has complete banned all kinds of single use plastic items and we used to use a lot of plastic cups and the Ujwala's concept saved the day again. By saying this we would like you all to support Ujwal and his cause by doing your part as well. CAMP ALPHA +917483717675

Congratulations Ujwal. Unique idea. May you be successful in this special venture. 👌
